Skin Regimens

There are two types of skin dryness. These conditions often coexist, contributing to the predisposition of wrinkles, dehydration, and irritation.
First, the skin may become dry because it has lost its superficial moisture. Even skin that produces too much oil can be flaky and slightly itchy. The second condition; alipoid skin, is more problematic. This occurs when the skin is under-active and the oil glands don't produce enough sebum. The skin's texture often appears to be normal to fine, but it is dull. It is also delicate, easily irritated, rough, and prone to reddening or sallow (yellowish). It usually feels taut. The follicles are virtually invisible. Under-active skin is doubly at risk. It potentially lacks the two most important defenses against premature aging: lubrication to keep it supple and the ability to hold moisture. Often dry skin is fine in texture and looks transparent. It feels tight and drawn without moisturizer, especially after washing. People with dry skin tend to have fine lines around the eyes and mouth. There may be whiteheads around the eyes and dry patches. This type of skin needs proper care because it shows premature signs of aging.
