Identifying your skin type is an important step in selecting proper skin care. Each person has a unique skin type, which may be a combination of two or more skin types. Several factors help determine skin type: lipid content, which is responsible for nutrition, softness, and suppleness; water content, which is responsible for the hydro-balance of the epidermis; and level of sensitivity, which represents the skin's tolerance and reaction to different stressors. Your skin type is also influenced by other internal and external factors, such as genetic predisposition, nutrition, sun exposure, hormonal changes, health problems, smoking, medications, climate, and skin-care regimen.
